Campfire Business Analyst – Guest Jéan Raath

I (Jéan) recently collaborated with Talia, Sketching Scrum Master, to produce a cheat sheet of sorts for my work on storytelling as a strategic enabler.

I’ve always found great joy in learning from everyday things. Inspired by the magic of narrative and how concepts from it could be applied to my industry and professional skill set, the #campfireBA was born.

I shared some of my insights and personal journey at the #BusinessAnalysis Conference in London, outlining four key principles that can help business analysis practitioners drive strategic change and value delivery.

These principles are:

1. Characters ~ Put People First

Using empathy, co-creation and trust to put humans over resources.

2. Theme ~ Power of Purpose

Encouraging a culture of motivation, authenticity, belief and values to help people connect to a deeper purpose.

3. Conflict & Resolution ~ Inspire Action

Change through action by inspiring, maintaining momentum and creating a “learn, do, share” environment.

4. Plot and Story Arc ~ Context & Structure

Help people see the big-picture by showing sequence, progression and geolocation (putting things in the context of time and space).

This amazing sketchnote summarizes these principles and outlines some practical ways to apply them to your day-to-day graft. These ideas sound simple, because they are. Getting them right however takes time and practice!
